IExpress 2.0 Native UI

Postby marxo on 20 Jan 2010, 04:02

Since it's really hard to find it, and only a small number of people know that it's in Internet Explorer 6 Administration Kit (IEAK 6) I'm posting the IExpress 2.0 in this standalone version so everyone can download. This application used to be everywhere starting from Windows 98 to Windows XP but a really tiny percent of people knew it was on their PC, and even less used it.

IExpress 2.0 is an application developed to facilitate creation of INF based setup programs by Microsoft. A complete reference can be found here.

Since Windows Vista it's not included with Windows and the Windows XP version was not one of the best. I'm including the download of IExpress here so everyone can create their INF based setups with it, without having to torture themselves with finding it or finding an alternative way to deploy their legacy setups. I used this in Windows Lupus Project and when repacking some projects, like the Unofficial Service Pack 2 for Windows Me.

This version work on all current Windows versions including Windows 7.

Yea, but you can't run packages packed with the new versions on Windows 95 and Windows 98.

Hello marxo, I am having trouble with this in Windows 7...
When I make the package, with (just to test) Notepad.exe as Installation and calc.exe as Post installation, and run it under Windows 7 -> nothing happens.. also when running as admin...

When running in Windows XP , it gives me:
Error creating process <C:\DOCUME~1\XPMUser\LOCALS~1\Temp\IXP000.TMP\calc.exe>. Reason: INDOWS\system32\advpack.dll

Any help would be appreciated, and would be very nice if you could help me out before the 28th of July, since I am going on vacation then, and need it on the vacation :-)

Thanks in advance!
- Droopy.

I can't see why it shouldn't work on Windows 7 it works perfectly for me there but I do seem to get your problem under Windows XP.

When built on XP it works on XP and 7.
I'm using 7 x86 but I think marxo was using 7 x64 so I don't think that should be the problem.

My Package was a little different to yours I only had calc.exe and it would run twice but I don't see that as the problem.

After some further testing on a Limited Domain User on Windows 7.
The XP version worked fine but the 7 version calc.exe never started.
I suggest you add the prompts in such as confirmation and finished to see if it is actually running.
